About Belajar

Belajar is a mobile-first language learning app built to help you pick up Bahasa Indonesia a few words at a time — the kind of practical, everyday Indonesian you need to hold a real conversation.

What the app does

Belajar turns vocabulary into a daily habit. The app organises more than 190 words across 15 practical topics — greetings, food, travel, numbers, family, shopping and more — so every session feels useful the moment you land in Bali, Jakarta, or a Zoom call with an Indonesian colleague. Each topic is split into three difficulty levels: Easy, Medium, and Hard. You unlock the next level by scoring 70% or higher on a quiz, which keeps progress meaningful and prevents you from rushing ahead before the basics stick.

Every word is presented as an interactive flashcard. Tap to flip between the Indonesian term and its English meaning, and tap the speaker icon to hear the word pronounced aloud — so you learn how a word sounds, not just how it looks. Short quizzes then test your recall with multiple-choice questions, and your best scores, streaks, and experience points are saved on your device so your progress follows you between sessions without an account.

Who it is for

Belajar is for travellers preparing for a trip to Indonesia, expats settling into life in Bali or Jakarta, students studying the language for the first time, and anyone who wants a friendly, low-pressure way to build a working Indonesian vocabulary. You do not need any prior knowledge — the Easy level starts from zero — and you do not need to commit to long study sessions. A few cards on your commute or before bed is enough to make steady progress.

Who builds it

Belajar is built and maintained by a small independent team passionate about making the Indonesian language approachable for the world. The app is designed to be simple, joyful, and respectful of how people actually learn — through repetition, context, and a little bit of fun. We continually add new topics and refine the learning experience based on feedback from learners like you.
